Purse heaven in Amsterdam: Tassen Museum HENDRKJE

When i came across these small surprises in Amsterdam.... By Nayana Mhatre

Overwhelming excitement.... and finding access to a treasure trove was the feeling i was experiencing, when i visited Amsterdam. It was an extended tour to Amsterdam while travelling across European countries. we all know that this multilingual place has it's own attractions, yet when i explore a place i end up finding places which will have brownie points added too.

I happen to find about this small purse Museum's information while planning this visit. Situated in an 17th Century historic house by the canal, this wonder was consisting 500 years history of western ladies bags.

Tassen Museum HENDRKJE: Bag Museum, tells you the story of the evolution of bags in the mainstream fashion. Hendrikje Ivo, an antique dealer, from Amstelveen was passionate about bags. The small Tortoise shell bag inlaid with mother of pearl started her affair with bag collection. She collected approximately 3000 bags and then decided to display them for public viewing. From Pockets separately tied at the waistline , to thigh pockets led to the invention of Reticule, known as ridicule or indispensable as the sheer fabrics made it difficult to carry. Use of Reticules was continued till 1930s. The museum houses 5000 pieces, which includes few Louise Vuitton early trunks, Quilted Channels, Hermes Kelly and Gucci bags with recent addition of Balenciaga “IT Bag 2016”. There are bags of noted names like, Margaret Thatcher and Hillary Clinton.

It seemed like a wide spread of delectable treat for our eyes, of which we will keep thinking & drooling over throughout our life.

Enjoy Life and do what you had on your wish list guys!!!

Don't let Corona hamper our spirits.
